Hello my dreamers,
I hope you are well.
If you have read my previous article “How to be positive?” which was thought-driven, here is the sequel which is action-oriented and especially during the Covid pandemic. I hadn’t planned on writing the sequel now, but when I heard about depression as a consequence of the pandemic, I wanted to continue on the positivity theme.
I am not infallible at all but I will try to answer the question “what to do during the Covid pandemic?” to keep strong, with a non-exhaustive list. Above all, I think we have to take advantage of all these hours spent at home. So here’s what we can do:
- sorting, tidying up, cleaning our home because we feel better in a clean and tidy place. It feels great to get rid of a bunch of unnecessary things that clutter up our living space but also our mind. By clearing our surroundings, we clear our vision and clear our mind. Besides, if we work at home, it is more useful, we can increase our productivity.
=> Taking care of our living space.
- changing something like redoing our interior, whether it’s just a little decoration or major work because like the previous point, having an interior that we like, where we feel good, really at home, improves our mood. Changing this je ne sais quoi is like leaving something that doesn’t give us anything anymore behind us, so we can feel like we’re moving forward.
=> If we want to, daring to change.
- spending more time with our loved ones (even if it’s just video chat for some people). We all need social interaction.
=> Not to isolate ourselves.
- doing a DIY/creative activity such as tinkering, gardening, sewing, playing music, writing, painting, photographing, drawing, singing, dancing, etc. because it allows us to escape to another world.
=> Not to limit our use of creativity.
- improving one or more skills or learn new ones, such as learning new cooking recipes, a new language, a programming language, how to make video edits, play chess, become unbeatable at a game, or whatever.
=> Not to become a larva, making our brain work, and not to let it wither away.
- doing sport, whether indoors or outdoors, alone or with someone, with or without a coach. The gym is not essential for physical maintenance (although I know it can be for the motivation of some people). These days there are plenty of apps and videos on YouTube for working out. We must not forget that sport is good for health, especially against stress! We are too often locked up so outside it is even better, it allows us to take some fresh air.
=> Airing out, letting off steam, and paying attention to our health.
- watching all the cult films that we have always thought we would watch one day, watching the series that we haven’t had time to see yet, reading the pile of books that interest us, watching shows or virtually visiting museums on the internet. Cinemas, theaters, and museums are closed, but it doesn’t mean that we can no longer access culture at all.
=> Continuing to be interested in things, to cultivate ourselves.
- since we spend more time at home, we can also spend more time taking care of ourselves, for example doing all kinds of cures, manicures, pedicures, scrubs, masks, facial massages, etc. We can also take the opportunity, for example, to let our eyebrows grow back if we plan to change their shape. Finally, taking care of ourselves also means resting.
=> Pampering ourselves, taking care of ourselves.
- starting or progressing on a (new) project to more motivate us to get up in the morning. It will occupy our minds as if we are in a bubble and it will make time pass faster.
=> Avoiding a routine that is aimless and bores us, setting a goal.
At the moment, the imperatives are:
- not to neglect ourselves, our health neither our living space
- maintaining a social life
- indulging ourselves without feeling guilty (so for example, eat fat if you want to but moderately of course)
- doing what we like, enjoying the little pleasures in life (like having a hot cup of tea in a blanket watching a movie)
- trying new things, especially if there is nothing left to do
- setting a goal (seeing an evolution avoids feeling that every day is alike and we will have at least accomplished something good during this bad period)
The earth has not stopped turning, life goes on.
I hope this article helps you even a little bit to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. Please feel free to give me your feedback and if you too have any positive advice to help people, write them down in the comments.
