What to do in Ho Chi Minh City?

Posted on April 23, 2021June 8, 2021 Location Ho Chi Minh City

This post is also available in: Français (French)

Hello my dreamers, I hope you enjoyed reading each of my articles about the different places I visited in Vietnam. To finish this chapter, I’m going to write about what to do in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), when traveling will be safe.

If you’re visiting my blog for the first time, you have just come across the last article from a long series devoted to the month-long trip that I made alone in 2016 to know my parents’ country better. If you want to read all my adventures in Vietnam, I invite you to click on these links:

  • Tips for traveling to Vietnam

Reunion

About 10 years after my last visit to Vietnam, I’m going back there alone and not mastering Vietnamese at all lol but whatever, I wanted to go back. So, I was moved when I landed in Ho Chi Minh City. It has mostly changed because there are a lot more cars than before but the city hasn’t changed that much in my opinion. I immediately recognized my uncle and my two aunts at the airport (they did too, fortunately XD) and encountered a new little cousin. For 2 weeks, communication with my family was a bit funny XD but I was happy to see them again. They only speak Vietnamese and I can only say a few things in Vietnamese while I understand what I’m told, I know it’s weird…so when I had wifi, I used the translation application “Voice Translator” which was essential to me!

“There is plenty of things to do in Ho Chi Minh City”

Here is what I recommend you to do in Ho Chi Minh City:

  • to take a night stroll on the main avenue of the town hall

City Hall at night

  • to go to the Starlight Bridge (or Ánh Sao Bridge) to admire its very long rainbow fountain (very pretty at night)

Multicolored water jet bridge

  • to shop at Bến Thành market at night
  • to admire the Notre-Dame of Saigon Cathedral, the Central Post Office designed by French, including Gustave Eiffel, the central mosque or the Saigon opera house

  • to immerse yourself in the history of Vietnam by going to the Reunification Palace because it is an important place but above all, we can see various beautiful meeting rooms and old telecommunications devices in the basement. This is why I find it less interesting than the Ho Chi Minh City museum where handicrafts, old stamps, and banknotes, old devices, traditional costumes are displayed…

  • to visit pagodas like for example the Jade Emperor Pagoda, which at the entrance has a basin with small turtles and which is unlike any other pagoda that I have visited. Indeed, its interior is rather small, dark, and has some scary statues ^^”

  • to have a drink and contemplate Ho Chi Minh City from the Alto Heli Bar at the top of the Bitexco Financial Tower

Night view of Ho Chi Minh City from a high building

  • if you can, to take a little getaway to Vũng Tàu a few hours away, to be near the sea and eat good seafood

  • to do like the locals by having a snack on a terrace on small plastic chairs ^^

And so on…There is plenty of things to do in Ho Chi Minh City but also, do not forget to eat !! XD

So, what do you think about Vietnam?

🇬🇧 Some time ago, I suddenly decided to visi 🇬🇧 Some time ago, I suddenly decided to visit 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗺𝘀 for a day 🤷🏻‍♀️. I admit it was a bit short as it's about 3 hours from Paris by 🚙 but it was worth it.

I found it to be a pretty and dynamic city where the population is young and where life seems good 👍

And you, what do you think about Reims, have you ever been there?

Now that my company allows us to have unlimited holidays, I think why not spend some weekends here and there to visit parts of France...if I have the 💶 for 😅
______________________________

🇬🇧 09/06 is my feast day (?) but also the 🎂 of the person who gave me the most noteworthy 🥺 (and surprising) compliment until today, while it dates from more than 10 years.

She told me "You are transparent but as soon as we know you, we only see you".

However, I have never been very close to this person and we had only spoken to each other at a certain time but her words were enough for me to never forget her and her 🎂.

Also, that same year, one of the people I ❤️ the most, had on the contrary, the most 💔 words, to the point of burying ⚰️ the person I was before becoming a new one.

All this to say that 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 have a meaning, a goal, an impact. They can mark a person for life or even change the course of their life. We can forget having said something that a person will never forget. We are responsible for what we say, this is why we must always think and measure our words ⚖️. Let’s always try to be nice to others, otherwise, it’s better to remain silent and go our own way 🙏

❤️ if you agree

🇬🇧 Did you know that the Palace of Vaux-le-V 🇬🇧 Did you know that the Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte served as a model for the Palace of Versailles? 😮

It is for this reason that the King 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗫𝗜𝗩 called on the same craftsmen including the architect Le Vau, the landscaper Le Nôtre and the painter Le Brun, to build the Palace of Versailles.

🤔 Speaking of Louis XIV, it reminds me of the movie 📽️ "The Man in the Iron Mask" 🎭, a 1998 film, inspired by real events, with Leonardo Di Caprio as the main actor 😍 It's awesome, have you ever seen it?

Have you ever seen this 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵 from this angle?

Actually, going back to Paris made me a bit in low spirits 😞, like after every vacation to be honest lol. Continuing to admire its beauty through its monuments helps me to remember its magic lol 😅
