Weekend in Saint-Malo

Posted on November 15, 2021 Location Saint-Malo

This post is also available in: Français (French)

Hello my dreamers,

I hope you spend a great fall 🍁

In this short article, I’ll go back to my little weekend spent in Saint-Malo last summer ☺️

Less than 3 hours by train from Paris Montparnasse, Saint-Malo is a destination that I highly recommend for a weekend by the sea without traveling too much time.

I didn’t think it was such a cute and charming city! And there is a lot to see in a weekend even if I admit that I was not able to visit everything because I was accompanied by a pregnant woman who had to rest a maximum so we mostly basked on the beach 😅 but we still had a great weekend!

Passage Grande Hermine
Passage Grande Hermine
Rue Jacques Cartier
Jacques Cartier street, full of restaurants
Hôtel Chateaubriand
Chateaubriand hotel
Cathédrale de Saint-Malo
Cathedral of Saint-Malo

First of all, when we come out of the train station, we can easily find a bus just in front to bring us into the city center in just 10 minutes. You can buy a rechargeable/reusable transport card 👍

Remparts de Saint-Malo

Even if you haven’t planned anything for your stay, you can very well improvise your days by enjoying the beaches, strolling through the pretty cobbled streets, or going around the ramparts. You can also take a ferry across the sea and get to Dinard in 10 minutes for less than 10€.

Watch out for gulls

I must warn you against gulls! They are very numerous and can annoy us such as defecating on our arm while sleeping on the beach (which happened to me 😅) or even stealing our food. We saw a poor little boy have a big donut snatched from his hands by a seagull who watched him from the sky and then rushed at him. His donut fell to the ground and then dozens of gulls rushed to devour it. So, hide your food and eat fast XD

Plage de Bon-Secours

Beaches

If you like large beaches, you will like the Éventail beach, except that you may not enjoy it for long. Indeed, around 4:00 p.m., the tide was so high that the entire beach was underwater. Those who didn’t expect it and who had gone to bathe lost their belongings in the sea :/ so be careful.

Plage de l'Éventail

Bon-Secours beach is smaller, more crowded, but you can keep your place on the beach without being submerged. I find this beach atypical because you can admire it from the ramparts and its particularity is that there is a free swimming pool with a diving board in the sea. It is filled with seawater and when the tide goes down, the pool is emptying.

If you go to the beach in the morning, the tide will be low, which will allow you to see next to the swimming pool, a passage to get to Grand-Bé, a small island with an old fort, and the tomb of the writer Chateaubriand.

If you walk along the beach by taking the stairs near the children’s area, you will find a good secluded stretch of beach that is very pretty to photograph.

Take this path to go there

And voilà!

Restaurants

During this little weekend, we enjoyed our meals very much ☺️

We became familiar with the Hector family, the inescapable restaurateurs of the corsair city, by going to eat only in their establishments haha 😅

Here are the places where we ate and which I recommend:

  • Le Lion d’Or
Os à la moelle
Bone marrow
Poisson et risotto au pesto et parmesan
Fish and risotto with pesto and parmesan
Purée de pommes de terre et coquilles Saint-Jacques
Mashed potatoes and scallops
Fraisier
Strawberry with crème brûlée top 😍

🇬🇧 Some time ago, I suddenly decided to visi 🇬🇧 Some time ago, I suddenly decided to visit 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗺𝘀 for a day 🤷🏻‍♀️. I admit it was a bit short as it's about 3 hours from Paris by 🚙 but it was worth it.

I found it to be a pretty and dynamic city where the population is young and where life seems good 👍

And you, what do you think about Reims, have you ever been there?

Now that my company allows us to have unlimited holidays, I think why not spend some weekends here and there to visit parts of France...if I have the 💶 for 😅
______________________________

🇬🇧 09/06 is my feast day (?) but also the 🎂 of the person who gave me the most noteworthy 🥺 (and surprising) compliment until today, while it dates from more than 10 years.

She told me "You are transparent but as soon as we know you, we only see you".

However, I have never been very close to this person and we had only spoken to each other at a certain time but her words were enough for me to never forget her and her 🎂.

Also, that same year, one of the people I ❤️ the most, had on the contrary, the most 💔 words, to the point of burying ⚰️ the person I was before becoming a new one.

All this to say that 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 have a meaning, a goal, an impact. They can mark a person for life or even change the course of their life. We can forget having said something that a person will never forget. We are responsible for what we say, this is why we must always think and measure our words ⚖️. Let’s always try to be nice to others, otherwise, it’s better to remain silent and go our own way 🙏

❤️ if you agree

🇬🇧 Did you know that the Palace of Vaux-le-V 🇬🇧 Did you know that the Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte served as a model for the Palace of Versailles? 😮

It is for this reason that the King 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗫𝗜𝗩 called on the same craftsmen including the architect Le Vau, the landscaper Le Nôtre and the painter Le Brun, to build the Palace of Versailles.

🤔 Speaking of Louis XIV, it reminds me of the movie 📽️ "The Man in the Iron Mask" 🎭, a 1998 film, inspired by real events, with Leonardo Di Caprio as the main actor 😍 It's awesome, have you ever seen it?

Actually, going back to Paris made me a bit in low spirits 😞, like after every vacation to be honest lol. Continuing to admire its beauty through its monuments helps me to remember its magic lol 😅
