Hello my dreamers, I hope you are well!
After my first article where I gave little tips when traveling to Mexico, then the second where I told you about my trip to Cancún, here we are at the little one dedicated to Isla Mujeres.
Isla Mujeres is nice but honestly, I found there was not very much to visit, there were mostly souvenir shops. So I would rather advise you to visit another island :/
If you still want to go there, you can go there on your own by ferry for a few pesos. I tell you this because my sister and I had a bad experience during an organized group excursion.
In Cancún, my sister and I were approached by someone selling tours. He convinced us to book one tour to Isla Mujeres. The program was to go there by catamaran, with unlimited drinks, to snorkel, then to visit the underwater museum before having lunch at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Finally, we would have free time on the beach. It was an excursion from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for 55 USD/person (about 47€/person), in addition to the few tens of pesos of fees imposed by the government for the protection of the coral. This excursion was sold by Cancún Sailing.
This was especially advantageous for those who drank a lot of alcohol since the drinks were unlimited on the catamaran. But my sister and I don’t drink alcohol ^^” The only things we enjoyed were the catamaran trips. During the snorkeling, there were very few fish. We saw the underwater museum for only a few minutes and without being able to approach it with a simple snorkel because it was quite deep. The all-you-can-eat buffet was so-so, and we only had an hour of free time on a tiny crowded beach. Anyway, the crew was nice and did its best to ensure that everyone had fun in the catamaran but personally, I would say that it is an excursion to avoid. You can organize things by yourself but despite that, I did not find that there was a lot to do on this island. There are surely pretty beaches but I would recommend another island to see beautiful beaches and on a much more charming island!
I’m sorry that this article is not more cheerful 😅 but I give you my honest opinion.
And you, have you ever been to Isla Mujeres? If so, what did you think of it?
See you in the next article which will deal with the island of Holbox that I really liked! 😉
