Stay in Cabo San Lucas

Posted on September 19, 2022 Location Cabo San Lucas

Hi my dreamers!

I hope you are fine and that your return from vacation went well!

As promised, in this last part of my 2018 Mexico travelogue, I’m taking you to California! But first, I’ll go over the previous parts if you ever missed them:

  • What to know when traveling to Mexico
  • Trip to Cancún
  • Visiting Isla Mujeres
  • Visiting Isla Holbox
  • Swimming with turtles in Akumal
  • Visiting Tulum

And here is the summary of this article:

  • From Tulum to Cabo San Lucas
  • Los Angeles or South of France?  ^^
  • Restaurants
  • Beach club Blue Marlin Ibiza
  • Boat trip
  • Lovers’ Beach
  • The scam before leaving Mexico

From Tulum to Cabo San Lucas

My sister and I shortened our stay in Tulum (we only stayed 3 days) due to bad weather. We decided to go to Cabo San Lucas, at the other end of Mexico, in Southern Baja California. It’s a city 5-hour flight from Cancún with a 2-hour jet lag. So we flew from Cancún with a stopover in Mexico City, where we spent the night in a so-so hostel, called Hostel Mexico DF Airport. I didn’t really like the Mexico City airport either because it wasn’t very clear, especially to collect our suitcases. It is an international airport but all the agents we asked for help, understood a little English and spoke only Spanish. Finally, when leaving the airport, a nauseating smell of garbage cans reigned throughout the atmosphere!  Anyway…

Los Angeles or South of France? ^^

When we finally landed in the small airport of Los Cabos-San Jose del Cabo, we were happy because the weather was hot and sunny! I had never been to California so these landscapes with all these reliefs and all these cacti were new to me.

Cabo San Lucas is a very friendly town.  It looks like Los Angeles but with its port, you could have the impression of being in the south of France. In the evening, it is very lively, like in Cancún with its nightclubs. But we noticed that in Cabo San Lucas, the prices were higher than in Cancún and Tulum.

Restaurants

Around the port, there are almost only Mexican and seafood restaurants. My sister and I wanted to eat something else than Mexican food after 2 weeks because it’s not very varied 😅. We found Da Vinci’s, an Italian restaurant that also offered dishes at more affordable prices.  In addition, the staff was friendly and above all, the food was good! My sister had good pesto pasta and I tasted a pesto pizza for the first time, which I really liked!

Otherwise, in the Puerto Paraiso shopping mall, there are a few varied restaurants for a change from Mexican food (Burger King, Häagen Dazs, Subway, Asian restaurants, etc…).

Beach club Blue Marlin Ibiza

We went to the Blue Marlin Ibiza beach club which is located in a very large and beautiful hotel that offers access to a private jacuzzi on the terrace of some rooms 😮 There was music but there were few people. It was quiet and not at all festive, which I prefer.

The beach was small compared to those in Cancún 😅 What I liked least was that firstly, in our line of sight, we had two very impressive ocean liners in the distance.  Second, we were bothered by merchants every 5 minutes (which was not the case at all in Cancún or Tulum). But it was sunny and warm and it was enough to be happy!

The menu presented dishes ranging from 180 pesos (about 8€) to 350 pesos (about 15€) and the list of drinks was endless. I had a huge plate of nachos covered in melted cheese and steak, accompanied by a bowl of guacamole and super spicy ceviche. The meat and the white sauce were very good. The beef entrecote tacos with tomatoes and guacamole were also very good!

Boat trip

One day, by chance, we met, surely the most French-speaking Mexican in Cabo San Lucas. He was a slightly old man, called Enrique. He is the owner of a taco restaurant on Melchor Ocampo street and he speaks French very well.

To take a boat trip, he recommended us Cabo Zaida’s Tour which is at the port.  Unlike our experience in Isla Mujeres, this time we were satisfied with the excursion.  For 250 pesos per person (about 11€, a reduced price thanks to Enrique, according to him), a small boat took us to different places of interest. We were able to observe beautiful fish through the window of the boat which gave a view of the depths. We were also able to see stones in Scooby-Doo shape (yes, the dog from the cartoon), a place where pelicans were, and another one where sea lions slept. Moreover, at the port, you can see some of them asking for food from the fishmongers lol. We also saw the famous arch of Cabo San Lucas, then two beaches with funny names: Divorce Beach and Lovers’ Beach!

Lovers’ Beach

We got off the boat at Lovers’ Beach. On this small beach, there is nothing so remember to buy something to eat and drink before going there.

There, we could swim on the side where the boat dropped us off because it was much less agitated than on the other side but therefore, everyone bathes in the same place. 😅 I don’t advise you to swim on the other side because the waves are quite strong. If you want to enjoy the sea quietly without being too close to people, I don’t recommend this beach 😅

Lovers' Beach

On the other side, there was almost nobody. In fact, it is above all a good place to sunbathe and take beautiful photos with the impressive rock formations by the sea.

There are lots of different boats that pass by this beach so you have to remember the name, number, and color of the roof of your boat to be able to return to port. Generally, they run every hour until the last hour, at 5:00 p.m.

I liked this beach even though I didn’t swim there. It wasn’t too crowded, it was beautiful, and the shape of the rocks was fascinating.

The scam before leaving Mexico

Just before flying back to France, my sister and I had a bad experience with a transport agency called Easy Taxi Cab in Cancún because they clearly ripped us off.

We had time before taking our flight to Paris so we wanted to go back one last time to Playa Delfines, located 15 minutes from the airport. We wanted to take an ADO bus, which wasn’t too expensive but two people from Easy Taxi Cab approached us saying that the ADO bus would go through the city center before going along the hotel zone, where Playa Delfines is, so that would take an hour.  They told us that with their shuttle, even if the price was higher, we would go directly through the hotel zone to get down to Playa Delfines, so we would be there in just 15 minutes. So we agreed to go with their shuttle. But the driver first went through the city center to drop off the couple who was with us on the shuttle!

In conclusion, we paid to sit for an hour on the shuttle. We did a big tour airport -> city center -> hotel zone -> airport. We had lost too much time, we could no longer make a stop at Playa Delfines.

We immediately demanded a refund from the manager of the two people who had sold us this service at the airport, but he didn’t want to hear anything. He was only blaming us, repeating that we hadn’t understood the principle of the shuttle, which necessarily goes through the city center first! So he refused to grant us any compensation!

That was a bad experience at the end of our trip but I loved everything about my trip to Mexico 😅

And you, have you ever been to Cabo San Lucas? What place(s) in Mexico would you like to visit?

Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for more content 😉 and soon, I will post a video of my trip 🙂

🇬🇧 Some time ago, I suddenly decided to visi 🇬🇧 Some time ago, I suddenly decided to visit 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗺𝘀 for a day 🤷🏻‍♀️. I admit it was a bit short as it's about 3 hours from Paris by 🚙 but it was worth it.

I found it to be a pretty and dynamic city where the population is young and where life seems good 👍

And you, what do you think about Reims, have you ever been there?

Now that my company allows us to have unlimited holidays, I think why not spend some weekends here and there to visit parts of France...if I have the 💶 for 😅
______________________________

🇬🇧 09/06 is my feast day (?) but also the 🎂 of the person who gave me the most noteworthy 🥺 (and surprising) compliment until today, while it dates from more than 10 years.

She told me "You are transparent but as soon as we know you, we only see you".

However, I have never been very close to this person and we had only spoken to each other at a certain time but her words were enough for me to never forget her and her 🎂.

Also, that same year, one of the people I ❤️ the most, had on the contrary, the most 💔 words, to the point of burying ⚰️ the person I was before becoming a new one.

All this to say that 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 have a meaning, a goal, an impact. They can mark a person for life or even change the course of their life. We can forget having said something that a person will never forget. We are responsible for what we say, this is why we must always think and measure our words ⚖️. Let’s always try to be nice to others, otherwise, it’s better to remain silent and go our own way 🙏

❤️ if you agree

🇬🇧 Did you know that the Palace of Vaux-le-V 🇬🇧 Did you know that the Palace of Vaux-le-Vicomte served as a model for the Palace of Versailles? 😮

It is for this reason that the King 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗫𝗜𝗩 called on the same craftsmen including the architect Le Vau, the landscaper Le Nôtre and the painter Le Brun, to build the Palace of Versailles.

🤔 Speaking of Louis XIV, it reminds me of the movie 📽️ "The Man in the Iron Mask" 🎭, a 1998 film, inspired by real events, with Leonardo Di Caprio as the main actor 😍 It's awesome, have you ever seen it?
