Hello my dreamers,
I hope you are well!
For this third article on my stay in Greece, I take you to Santorini! If you are interested, my first articles were about the island of Paros and the island of Naxos. This time, there won’t be a lot of text in this short article because honestly, I don’t have much to say. I especially have pictures to show you 🙂
“about 60€ more than in Paros”
First of all, if you arrive too early at Santorini airport because you have to wait for a ferry, for example, you have to know that Santorini airport is tiny and you are not allowed to wait inside, so you end up outside -_-
During our stay, we rented a room in Mesaria (in the middle of the island, south of Fira) on Airbnb, which cost 163€ for 3 nights. That’s about 60€ more than in Paros, to give you an idea of the higher cost of living in Santorini. Now, I will quickly tell you what I thought of each place I went through: Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, the Red Beach in Akrotiri, and Ancient Thira.
Fira
Obviously, I found Fira, the capital, super touristy. That’s why I didn’t like it THAT MUCH. But I can not deny the fact that this city is pretty, like everywhere in Greece!
Oia
I preferred Oia which I found less crowded (except at sunset ˆˆ”) and cuter. The streets are different and less similar to each other. I find that Oia offers different points of view to take pictures. There, you will see a pretty little bookstore called Atlantis Books in the basement, with atypical decoration and books in many foreign languages. Inside, I felt I was like in a fantastic movie ^^
Imerovigli
What I remember the most about Imerovigli are all the beautiful hotels with crazy terraces $_$ and the Skaros Rock, this huge rock on a piece of land that allows us to have Santorini in front of us.
The Red Beach in Akrotiri
It was crowded so we had to park quite far (yes, even with the small quad) to go see the Red Beach in Akrotiri, this impressive and famous beach with red rocks, due to its volcanic past. But it was worth it!
Ancient Thira
We wanted to visit Ancient Thira which is the archaeological site of the ancient city of Thera, near the village of Kamari, southeast of Santorini. And you know what? We must have taken the wrong path because we never found it lol. We have a pretty good pace going up but it took us 45 minutes to get to the top of the mountain though. At the top, there was nothing except large rocks arranged to form a large tomb and a sign with the writing “Cemetery of Ancient Thera”. Nothing else and we thought we were like 2 idiots lol. We couldn’t see anything else, it was getting late, the sun was starting to set, we were tired and we were going to run out of water. So we thought “Nevermind, we’re going back down”. Despite this failure lol it was still fantastic to admire the view from up there, on both sides of the mountain.
To conclude, we liked Santorini, especially Oia and it was a very good idea to visit other islands (5 days in Santorini, 3 days in Paros and 1 day in Naxos) because it is different and it is also very beautiful there! And you, what do you think of these different places? Which one do you prefer?
Stay tuned for the next (yummy) article 😀
